About Our Mom

Dance4

Whatcha doin’ Mom?

She’s looking at those pictures again.  What’s on your foot?

There’s nothing on my foot so leave it alone.  We decided we would tell you a little bit about our mom instead of talking about ourselves this time..

The pictures Steinbeck is talking about are some pictures she took of old, falling-apart, rusty, tattered buildings.  She calls them Dead Buildings and she loves taking pictures of them.  She says she can see so many tails tales of the people and animals who used to use those buildings.  She is fascinated by the textures, colors, shapes and angles. If she had time and money, she would just go around taking pictures of dead buildings.

She can’t do that ‘cuz she can’t leave us at home and I don’t want to ride in the car.

Relax, Steinbeck.  Remember, she has that work thing she has to go to almost every day.

Except for the weekends!  Those days she belongs to us!!!

Anyway, we thought we would show you just one dead building that caught her eye.

You boys were kind to share. Your mom’s dead building is very interesting and cool. Our dad takes photos like this as well. Your mom is very talented, and you should be very proud of her. Great photos. It is interesting to wonder what an old building was once like.

Mom loves using her imagination. 🙂

My human loves photographing old buildings like that too – we don’t get too many of them here, though, because buildings are always getting torn down and replaced before they get a chance to get old. It bums out my human.

Mom likes to take road trips and that’s where she finds lots of dead buildings. She doesn’t like it when they tear down the buildings so quickly. That’s part of history that’s gone.

Oh my! Just think of all the mousies and critters that live in those dead buildings. My Mom – many years ago – was very much into painting dead buildings which led to an idea to write a book of poetry about dead buildings and the “ghosts” that might occupy them (depending on the type of dead building it was of course). That and many other ideas kind of disappeared as time went by but old/dead buildings have a LOT of stories to be told we’re sure!!!! Your Mom took some GREAT photos!

That’s funny! Our Mom had the same idea only not poetry. She just wanted to write stories about the buildings. Our moms must be related!

I love old farms – so sad to see them fading away ! This even looks a bit like the barn at my Uncle Mick’s place. Purrs.

Really? I’m just drawn to old buildings. We don’t have enough of them in the US. They always want to tear them down and erase the history.

Wow we love that old building but worry in case they get in any trouble if the walls fall down!

For everything there is a season, whether people, animals, plants or buildings. The last picture is especially appropriate, held in by tape. 🙂 Good pics.

That building really looks dead…or close to it. 🙂
