I thought I would do a Catoween Revisited for today.  This post was from 2014 and there’s my beloved Shakespeare.  Now I see how much bigger he was then Steinbeck is.  However, Steinbeck has tons of Shakespeare’s personality.  Happy Catoween All!!!gr_ith117

It’s Catoween Day and I’m going to go trick or treating for catnip, salmon, crinkly toys and jingle bells.  I don’t like all those silly costumes so I’m just going to wear my crown.

king shakespeare

Hey wait a minute!!!!  I was planning on going as a king tonight, too.  Shakespeare, did you get into my supply of crowns again?

Copy of Mr. Innocent

I see it’s a case of “monkey see, monkey do”.

Where are the monkeys?  Are they coming with us????  They better not eat any of my treats!!!

Look!  I’m up in a tree!!

Mom was taking pictures of the maple tree and then thought she should add me.  Sometimes I really wonder about her.  I had no desire to climb that tree.  In the first place, it’s in the front yard and I don’t go out there.  In the second place it was windy and leaves were flying around.  In the third place, I wanted to just take a nap.  Oh well……….

Mom used me for  Caturday Art today.  I was calmly sitting in the doorway watching Hemingway wander around on the deck.  Suddenly there was a bright flash and I heard Mom saying, “Oh Steinbeck, you kept your eyes mostly open.  Good boy!”

Then she started playing around with it and ended up with this!

I think I look kind of spooky but that fits for Halloween.  MOL!

Have a great weekend!

Why are you insideSteinbeck, won’t you come outside?  I could use your fluffy tail to help Mom paint these windows.  I don’t want to get white on my regal black tail.

Hemingway, nobody is using my tail as a brush!

But look, you already have white in it.  Are you sure you haven’t been in the paint?

I haven’t been in the paint.  I’m too busy checking on all these plants that Mom brought inside.  I guess she thought they were getting lonely so she brought them in so we could keep them company.  Mom is always thinking of others.

And so ends another typical day in our household.  We each seem to do our own things and then we all gather on Mom’s bed at the end of the day.

The Boys Being Good

Hemingway, don’t breathe on me…..you’ll mess my furs!

amber door

Mom, why do they call you an Amber Door at work?

Oh Steinbeck, you don’t have it quite right.  I volunteered to help with a new reward program at work.  Those of us who volunteered are called Ambassadors………..not Amber Doors.  It’s a neat program and it gives me a chance to recognize coworkers who are in other countries.  Now we can say thanks to anyone in the company for a great job and everyone can see that thanks through the special recognition board.

Can you recognize kitties?

We don’t have any kitties working for the company.

How about the other humans, do they have kitties?

I know some of them do.

Well, you can recognize those humans for being kind to their kitties.

We’ll see.

Mom?  Can we send Steinbeck to school so he can learn to listen better?

amber door

Steinbeck, what’s that?

It’s an amber door.

So why are you putting it on our blog?

Mom said that at work she’s an amber door and I just don’t understand.  I thought maybe some of our readers might.

Steinbeck, I’m sure you didn’t hear her right.  MOMMMMMMMM……….are you an amber door?

She says she’s busy and doesn’t know what I’m talking about.

Oh well…………let’s play.

But what about the amber door?

Maybe if our readers tune in tomorrow or the next day, they might find out.

………on this cool autumnal day! The scenery is changing, we must say. The leaves they fall and the ducks all fly away……and the ground will soon be frozen hard as ice.

Steinbeck, what on earth are you doing?

I’m singing Mom’s favorite song, “My Old Kentucky Home”.

Well, that’s where she was born and she likes it and it makes her think of her dad who was also born there.

I meant, why are you singing, but more importantly…..those aren’t the words.

I’m being creative.

Oh give me a home, where the carrots grow tall……..where the catnip still grows in the fall……..where bunnies and squirrels don’t tease me at all……..and the sunshine still warms all my furs…………

If you can do it, so can I.

Hemingway, why did Mom go to the vet the other day?

Steinbeck, I’ve told you that Mom doesn’t go to the vet, she goes to a doctor.

Well, if the vet is good enough for us, why isn’t it good enough for Mom?

You still haven’t answered any of my questions.

Fine……..now listen.  Mom had to go have something called a stress test done.

Does that hurt?  Will we have to have one?

Mom said it didn’t hurt, although she did have all sorts of reactions to the chemicals.  The nurses gave her diet cola as soon as they could after the restrictions were lifted and she started to feel better.

Why did she have to have that test?  Did she study for it?  Will she get paid more money for passing it?

Steinbeck, it’s not that kind of a test.  This was a test to see how Mom’s heart was working.

Oh nooooooooo!  Is her heart going to stop?

Not at all, Steinbeck.  Remember how much stress she was under when she was starting her new job?

I sure do.

Well, some of the things happening to her body then could have been some heart issues so her doctor wanted her to get it checked out.  Her doctor told her that the tests show no blockages and that’s very good.  She’s also feeling better now that the stress has died down some.

Wow.  Humans are complicated beings.  Are we supposed to keep testing Mom so she doesn’t get stress overload again?

Somehow I think Mom would say we test her enough, especially you.

I’m going to tell Mom that once again you’re not being nice.

From the Mom:

Yes, I did have a stress test a couple of weeks ago.  Several years back, I went to a Lifeline Screening.  I just figured it would be a good thing to check out even though that’s something I would normally never do.  In fact, on my scheduled day they had a power failure so they couldn’t do the test.  Ordinarily that would have been enough for me to forget about it but I didn’t.  I made sure they got me rescheduled.  Know what?  When they did the tests, they discovered that my right carotid artery was 95% blocked and I had no symptoms.  Just a few days later I was in the hospital for surgery.  Since that time, all of my scans have been clear.  However, I was putting my body through so much stress with the new job that I was having shortness of breath and I was sweating like crazy.  Since I seem to avoid showing symptoms, I agreed with my doctor that we should check it out.  I’m doing fine now.  I’ve noticed that I don’t have the shortness of breath and the sweating that I did so the stress has lessened.  I am getting more comfortable with my job and feel like I know most of what I’m doing.  My word to the boys’ readers is to get the Lifeline Screening done if it’s in your town.  Those are tests I never would have had at my doctor’s office ‘cuz I didn’t have any symptoms.  They saved my life.

By the way, the boys may bring stress into my life at times, but it’s all surrounded by love.  How can anyone be stressed out by a purring ball of fluffy fur?

We didn’t think Mom would ever get our picture posted on the Sunday Selfies Blog Hop.  It’s just not possible to get good help!

Steinbeck, why do you always have squinty eyes?

I’m trying to look sophisticated.

It’s Sunday again and that means we were busy telling Mom to post our Selfies for the Blog Hop.  She decided to play with one of our pictures when we were playing together.

And lo and behold, when Mom got through messing with it, the picture turned out like this:

We are really enjoying the super nice weather we’re having this weekend.  Mom has let us play outside in the yard while she’s been busy doing stuff inside.  She says that weekends just go by too fast.  She’s still trying to get used to working full time at the new place.  She comes home from work really tired so she doesn’t get on the puter all the time.  We’re trying to help her as much as possible.  We’re always happy to see all our friends out in the blog universe.

Hemingway, why do you always do all the talking?

Do you have something to say?

That’s why.
