amber door

Mom, why do they call you an Amber Door at work?

Oh Steinbeck, you don’t have it quite right.  I volunteered to help with a new reward program at work.  Those of us who volunteered are called Ambassadors………..not Amber Doors.  It’s a neat program and it gives me a chance to recognize coworkers who are in other countries.  Now we can say thanks to anyone in the company for a great job and everyone can see that thanks through the special recognition board.

Can you recognize kitties?

We don’t have any kitties working for the company.

How about the other humans, do they have kitties?

I know some of them do.

Well, you can recognize those humans for being kind to their kitties.

We’ll see.

It’s Sunday again and that means we were busy telling Mom to post our Selfies for the Blog Hop.  She decided to play with one of our pictures when we were playing together.

Dance1

And lo and behold, when Mom got through messing with it, the picture turned out like this:

We are really enjoying the super nice weather we’re having this weekend.  Mom has let us play outside in the yard while she’s been busy doing stuff inside.  She says that weekends just go by too fast.  She’s still trying to get used to working full time at the new place.  She comes home from work really tired so she doesn’t get on the puter all the time.  We’re trying to help her as much as possible.  We’re always happy to see all our friends out in the blog universe.

Hemingway, why do you always do all the talking?

Do you have something to say?

Nope.

That’s why.

My Boys2Tonight we were sitting together and chatting with Mom.  She told us that yesterday the air conditioner went out at work so it was hot and stuffy and she was afraid to go in today.

She should have stayed home with us then ‘cuz we had cold air in the house.

You’re interrupting again, Steinbeck.  She said when she got to the office it was kind of cool but it was real wet.  She said all the papers felt damp  She said it was like being in a swimming pool locker room.

I know I wouldn’t like swimming pools ‘cuz I hate baths!!!  Did Mom feel like she was taking a bath.

Of course not.

The boys

Mom, we love it when we can have these chats.

(I’m amazed I was actually able to get a picture of you with your eyes open, Little One.)

Mom, did you tell Steinbeck about your niece?

What’s a niece?  Is it like catnip?

No, Steinbeck.  A niece is not food or treats.  It’s Mom’s brother’s daughter.  You know her.  She comes over here and pets you.

Oh, now I’m on the right page.  What about her?

This is a picture of her when she was a little girl.  She’s sitting on Cinder.  You never met Cinder.  She was old when I came here but she and I were best buddies.  Anyway, Mom’s niece got her first job as a licensed RN today.  She’s going to work in a hospital where Mom has had to go before.

Mom’s going to the hospital????

No.  Once again you are not listening.

That’s because I was thinking about doing the “Slappy Paws Dance”.

Mom……..that’s the end of our chat!

We have so much work to do on weekends.  We don’t think humans understand how hard it is on us.

For one thing, there’s the matter of our meals.  They are very important to us……….especially me!

You see, during the week Mom’s brother gets up first and he always feeds us.  As soon as we hear his door open, we go rushing out to the kitchen.  That’s the time we are supposed to have our breakfast.

Mom doesn’t get it on weekends.  She thinks it’s just fine for her to sleep in and not give us breakfast on our time.

Sometimes she fools us and gets up real early and heads out her door.  But then she turns around and runs back in, leaving us shut out of her room.  We have to try our best meowing and scratching at the door and even sometimes putting our paws under the door to see if we can wake her up.

People, please don’t worry ‘cuz we always get our breakfast.

Then there’s all the activity during the day.  Mom seems to think it’s just fine to run that noisy machine and dust and move things around.

Doesn’t she realize that we need our rest.

After all, it was lots of work getting her to wake up in the first place.

We still haven’t trained her about our evening meal.  if she’s home, there’s no reason she can’t give it to us a little early.  We’re working on training her.

We start doing naughty things to get her attention and then she gives up and fixes us our supper.

All that work on the weekends.

No wonder we’re exhausted!

Mom says we have to get a job.

What’s a job?

I don’t know.  I’m wondering if it’s something that flies around.  I know I can get a job if it flies.

Maybe it’s something that’s furry and runs around.  I think both of us could get a job if that’s the case.

Somehow I think we’re on the wrong track.  Mom says she goes to “work” every day.  I wonder if work is another human word for job.  If that’s true, then I don’t think I want a job.

Why not?

Well, you have to get up early every morning.

We already know you can do that.  You always wake Mom up before that thing with the numbers on it starts making noises in the morning.

Fine, so I can handle that part.  However, then you have to go outside somewhere and go in that thing she calls a car and go away from home.

I don’t like going in the car.  It’s scary.  Besides, I don’t think we know how to make it run.

Well, even if we did make it run, where would we take it?

I have no idea.  I guess we would have to take it where the job is and I still don’t know for sure what that is.

Why did Mom put this idea in our heads?????

Maybe she did it so we would have something to write about in our blog.

That’s really sneaky!!!
