We think we know why Mom is not a big fan of winter.

Well, we’re not big fans either.

True, but just think what we’ve been through in the past few days.  Last week the actual temperature was -30 and the windchill was around -50.

Isn’t most wind chilly?  At least in the winter.  That’s stupid to measure how chilly the wind is.  Humans……..

Anyway, then over the weekend it got warm and things started melting and it even rained.

Not a good plan, Mother Nature.

That’s right.  Mom went out to her car on Monday morning and before she knew it, she was kneeling in the driveway and couldn’t get up.  All around her was ice covered with water and there was no traction.

We promise we didn’t laugh.

Hemingway and Cookie Jar

I may have giggled around the cookie jar…….just a little.  But I only did that when I knew Mom was okay.  Even she admits that she looked kind of funny trying to get up.  She told us later that she kind of scooted over the water-covered ice so she could grab hold of her car.  Maybe if she had paws instead of feet with shoes on them, she might have been able to get some traction.  She got up, looked at us, kind of smiled and headed to work.

Now today the angels are busy dusting and they have feathers and dust flying all over the place.  Mom’s view at work got shortened with all that stuff flying around.

They must be working really hard ‘cuz the dust and feathers are flying all over the place.  Everywhere we look outside, it’s white.  Sometimes we can’t even see across the street.

I bet Mom wishes she had stayed home with us.

By the time Mom got home tonight, this is what it looked like.

Remember when I was complaining about having too much cold and no snow?

imageedit_1_6851307030

I said all that cold was being wasted. Well…………

snow kitty

Look what happened to poor Outdoor Kitty!!!  He’s amazed.  We haven’t really had snow this winter……….until now.

ready

To make things worse, Mom said we’re losing all of our degrees and going way into the hole.  Tonight the actual temperature may get down to -27 F.  That’s almost beyond the bottom of degrees in my mind.  Poor Steinbeck has never seen cold like this.

Good thing Mom got more wood so we can just stay inside and be warm.

If anyone has extra degrees, please send them our way!  We would all really appreciate it.

Where’s the snow?  It’s cold out there but there’s no snow.  That seems like such a waste of cold.  Aren’t we supposed to be conserving or something?  We have no snow and it’s cold.  That’s not conserving in my mind.  Besides, there’s not even any sun!!!  If we can’t have snow, can we at least have sun?

imageedit_4_8595611605

Steinbeck, will you quit your grumbling and watch for the squirrels, bunnies and birds?  With all the racket you’re making about no snow, they’re going to get scared and stay away.

imageedit_6_8637200601

Fine, maybe I’ll go help Mom make the bed.  I know she can’t do it without my help.

imageedit_8_7222167562

Steinbeck, come look.  The squirrel is hanging upside down from the bird feeder again.

Hemingway, it’s hard to tell, but he’s looking right at me!

imageedit_11_5363768562

Did that make you forget about the fact we have cold and no snow.

Not really.  But at least it gave me something else to do.  Besides, I found my kicky-throw-in-the-air toy and that always makes me happy.

Sigh…….It’s a good thing Mom had today off from work.  I get so tired taking care of this little one!

Guess what………guess what……..guess what…………..

I’m so excited.  I want to should the news from the rooftop!!!

IT’S SNOWVEMBER!!!!

Mom took some pictures outside when she got home.  She showed them to me and I was so happy.  Before you ask…….no I have not walked in it yet.  Hemingway told me I wouldn’t like it.  Besides, Mom doesn’t want us going out when she gets home from work ‘cuz it’s getting dark.  I hope you enjoy the Snowvember Pictures!!!

For a week or so, the weather people have been telling everyone around here that we were going to be buried in snow by this time.  Mom got tired of hearing them talk about all the white stuff.  After all, just last Sunday our humans had a BBQ out on the deck and it was around 60.  All of us were hoping that maybe winter decided to leave early.

Then the weather people started talking about all this white stuff coming.  Mom said she didn’t want any white stuff.  Eben her friends were hoping the white stuff would stay away and that the weather people were telling tails.

Steinbeck………you mean tales.

Oh, right.  Anyway, we wanted to call the weather people and tell them to cancel the white stuff ‘cuz Mom didn’t want any.

We thought she deserved to have a nice surprise.

Guess what?

Here’s what our new “foot of snow” looks like:

our-foot-of-snow

Mom says the weather people have to stop teasing us.  Oh, it’s cold out there this weekend but it sure isn’t white here.

Mom says just south of us there’s lots and lots of the new white stuff, but it missed us.

We’re all happy!!!

Even though winter hasn’t left yet.

Hemingway, I get concerned when Mom has to go outside in the cold.

Don’t worry, Little One.  Mom has lived in Minnesota for many, many, many, many years and she can handle the cold…..even if she doesn’t like it.

But this morning we had less than no temperature.  There was a – sign in front of the temperature.  So why did the angels steal so many temperatures that they put us in the hole.

I don’t know.

And did you say what they did outside?  They spilled flour all over the place!

Steinbeck, that’s snow.  I think I’ve told you about it before but you keep forgetting.  It’s cold and you don’t want to put your paws in it.  Don’t worry, the sun will eventually melt it but it will be many months now before that happens.

But won’t the angels have to give us back some of those temperatures?

dsc_0743

Teaching Steinbeck is so hard.  I need to take a nap and try and recover.

dsc_0750

I’ll just stay in this sun puddle and try to get warm.  Are we going to have another two cat night?

Steinbeck, you better explain to your readers what you’re talking about.

Well, last night we were concerned that Mom might get cold during the night so both of us slept on her head.  She told us it was a two cat night.  Maybe we should call some of our friends to come join us since it’s going to be even colder tonight!

We begged and begged so Mom would let us outside this morning.  After all, we finally had some degrees.  OK, so it was only three degrees and we found out how miserable that is.

Hey......where did all that white stuff come from? Who said it could fall on our yard?

Hey……where did all that white stuff come from? Who said it could fall on our yard?

Even if we look in opposite directions, the white stuff is still there!

Even if we look in opposite directions, the white stuff is still there!

Do you think we should try walking on the white stuff?

Do you think we should try walking on the white stuff?

This is ridiculous. We need more degrees to be outside.

This is ridiculous. We need more degrees to be outside.

I'm with you. Besides, this white stuff is COLD!!!

I’m with you. Besides, this white stuff is COLD!!!

Mom says we have a very bad case of cabin fever and that’s why she finally let us go out and explore for about two minutes.

We don’t have a cabin and I don’t know about you but I don’t have a fever.

I know.  It’s another human thing.

Mom said there’s no temperature outside so we have to stay inside today.

No temperature????  What does that mean?

Well, she said it was minus some degrees overnight and we’re still missing some degrees.

What does that have to do with going outside?  Do I need to go to college and get a degree??  How can I do that?  I don’t have any money.

Shakespeare, you’ve been into the catnip, haven’t you?

(Shakespeare blushes)

All I know is that Mom told us it’s better for us to stay inside ‘cuz the air conditioners outside are working full force and making it very cold.

Turn them off, humans!  Turn them off right now.

Here’s a picture of the cold winter sun outside today.

Cold winter sun

When Mom went across the river this morning she said that the sun dogs were really bright and beautiful.

Sun dogs?  Are there moon cats?

I don’t know.  Mom wanted to take a picture of the sun dogs this morning but she didn’t have her camera and couldn’t stop on the busy road anyway.  So, she tried to take a picture of them this afternoon.  This isn’t a real good picture, but you can use your imagination.

Sun dogs

Oh boy!  I see a Cocker Spaniel, a Golden Retriever, a Boston Terrier….

Shakespeare, stay out of the catnip!

Copy of P1030167This sad little flower in the snow pretty much sums up how Shakespeare and I feel about this winter that will never end.

Copy of P1030152Just look at all that white stuff out there!  We don’t like it.  When our feet touch that white stuff it makes our toes cold.

The other day Mom was taking pictures of what happened when yet another snow storm came through our town.

Just look what she found! Copy of P1030170We kept looking at this picture and we decided that it’s spring finally coming our way!

Mom looked at the picture and said it’s probably that polar express train.  Wait…….I know what it really is!!!  It’s the Party Express Train coming my way ‘cuz my birthday is less than a month away now!
