Brotherly LoveHey everyone, we have spring here and it’s been wonderful.  That’s why you haven’t heard from us.  We’ve all been outside playing and working and enjoying all that fresh air.  That makes us really tired so we’ve been napping lots.

I like to go outside to be brushed.  Mom puts my furs on the log pile and then birdies come and take it for their nests.  I think that’s really neat. Now that it’s getting warmer, I have too many furs anyway, so I will gladly share.

Poor Mom has been working like crazy in the yard and she’s kind of broken her body.  She says she’s getting too old for all this stuff but she really loves pretty flowers.

She took some pictures of some of the stuff she’s been doing so we’ll just do a little slide show for you.  Hemingway, how do we do that?

Just put your paw on that button and stand back.

Ok………

We hope you enjoyed our pictures of Mom’s flowers.

I just want to know when the catnip is going to grow.  I saw one container that had chocolate mint in it.  Doesn’t Mom know that’s not good for us?

I think she probably bought that for herself.

Oh……..well, I guess she can do that.

We’ve been kind of quiet this week.  First of all, we got hit by a blizzard last weekend.  Can you believe it?  We didn’t have any blizzards all winter and then in April, here comes a blizzard.  It just doesn’t seem right.

Now we’re finally getting some spring weather.  Hemingway and I spent a lot of time out on the deck with Mom yesterday.  We’re hoping to do the same today.  We can hear birds singing and kids yelling and dogs barking and all sorts of things.

Here’s my selfie for the day.  I wasn’t sure that Spring was really out there so I wasn’t sure I wanted to go outside.

Thanks to all our buddies who talked to Spring and told her to head to our house!

It’s been melting a little around here.  It’s still cold and there’s still plenty of white stuff out there, but here’s an update.

See……..the snow and cold didn’t hurt Mom’s flowers.  She says they are very stubborn and just won’t let winter get them down.

Mom says she wishes she were a crocus or a tulip ‘cuz this winter is kind of getting her down.

Here’s one of the stained glass yard art pieces without the snow.  Isn’t that rainbow pretty.  It has a solar light in it so if the sun shines, then it lights up at night.

I like to look at it out the window.

Here we are waiting for Mom to come back inside.

She said she doesn’t want us going out ‘cuz the deck is wet and we’ll get all messy.

We think she just doesn’t want us looking to see if the catnip is growing yet.

Have a great rest of the week, everyone.  Don’t forget…..if you see Spring, tell her to get herself over here right now!

imageedit_17_9906361773Hemingway, do you think Mom will let us go outside?

Why would you want to go out there, Steinbeck?  It’s still cold. I like being inside where it’s warm.

But that white stuff is disappearing.

Did you hear the wind today?  That wasn’t a warm wind.  I think we should stay inside.

But look what Mom took pictures of tonight when she got home.

imageedit_24_3476357411

Look at all those green things sticking up out of the cold ground?  Do you think they are related to catnip?  Do you think they know catnip and can tell it to start growing?

imageedit_22_8501347221

And look here.  See……..there’s a little bit of color showing.  Doesn’t that mean it’s warm?

imageedit_20_6948764722

And look at that spot of color!  I think that’s gorgeous.  I think I should have a catnip toy made out of that color.  I could really celebrate spring then.

Steinbeck, I think spring got lost.  Even Mom is beginning to wonder if the spring’s GPS stopped working.  She got excited about that little bit of color tonight, but she said it’s going to get cold again.

So does that mean we’re going to have to stay inside the rest of our lives????

If it means not going to the doctor’s house, I’m fine with that.

Mom told us that spring is coming today.  She said it’s supposed to get warmer and flowers will start blooming and catnip will grow.  I don’t know why Mom isn’t staying home to welcome spring.  I guess we’ll have to do it.

Hemingway, will you help me look for spring?  I don’t know for sure what I’m looking for.

imageedit_3_3353496670

Is it under there?  Do you see it?

imageedit_5_2290833272

Don’t crowd me, Steinbeck.  I can’t see anything with your furry face in the way.  I don’t think spring is under here.

imageedit_7_5908924628

Hemingway, I just thought of something awful.

What?

Do you think we have to burn all this wood before spring comes?

imageedit_1_6533874563

I’m not sure.  However, I’m pretty sure we shouldn’t have all this white stuff around if spring is coming.  What are we going to do????

Dear Readers, I believe I may have done something.  I think I’m being punished for what I did to Mom last weekend.  I don’t know what’s happening outside but I don’t like it!!

Nobody knows I'm hiding here and they can't blame me for what's going on outside!

Nobody knows I’m hiding here and they can’t blame me for what’s going on outside!

Mom......what did Hemingway do????

Mom……what did Hemingway do????

Is that snow on the grass?

Is that snow on the grass?

Look....the flowers are covered in snow!

Look….the flowers are covered in snow!

This is just not right!

This is just not right!

From the Mom:

Boys, don’t you remember last year when the tree behind us exploded and left “snow” all over the place?  Well, it happened again and since there wasn’t much of a breeze, it just sort of dumped in our yard.

To my boys’ faithful readers, I just want to give you an update on my leg.  I’m still on antibiotics and pain pills and the ankle is still quite red and swollen.  I was so excited yesterday because it actually felt like it was finally starting to heal.  I may have overdone things today and it is very painful tonight.  If it is still quite red and swollen on Monday, I’ll go see my doctor again and probably get more antibiotics.

Speaking from experience, don’t ever treat bites from fur people lightly.  They don’t mean to hurt us human moms and dads, but they have lots of germs in their saliva.  I have also learned not to spook Hemingway, especially when he’s in hunt mode.  Believe me, he is my “Gentle Giant” and I know if he really understood what he did to me he would feel just awful  Both boys mean the world to me and they are doing all they can to make me feel better.

Mom says that we have gotten really lazy.  She seems to think that all we do all day long is nap in the sun!

We have been away from the computer for a long time.  Our readers probably think we’ve forgotten how to post things.

But Mom doesn’t know for sure what we do during the day.  I try to tell her in the middle of the night what we’ve been doing….

But she doesn’t like it when we wake her up.

It’s just so hard to figure out humans.  They just don’t think like us!

Speaking of thinking……..I’ve been busy thinking about this winter stuff.  Mom keeps saying that spring is supposed to be here now but it’s still cold.  She did say that she was able to walk this morning without putting those little clothes on her hands.

Those are called gloves.

That made her happy.  She said the birds are singing and flying around before the big light in the sky wakes up so they must think spring is coming.

That big light is the sun.

Have you looked outside lately?  What did all that white stuff do to that pretty green grass?  It’s all brown now.  I don’t like it.  I hope none of that white stuff ever lands on us ‘cuz we might change colors!!

Shakespeare, you are so goofy.  Let’s go out and check on things.

Maybe if I walk out slowly it will be warmer.

Maybe if I walk out slowly it will be warmer.

Come on....I found some places where you can walk without stepping on the white stuff.

Come on….I found some places where you can walk without stepping on the white stuff.

Oh no......I'm surrounded by white stuff!

Oh no……I’m surrounded by white stuff!

I found a rock to stand on!

I found a rock to stand on!

Hey Hemingway and Shakespeare...it's me...Champ! I haven't seen you two in a long time. Doesn't that sun feel wonderful?

That big thing on the wall with all the numbers on it says that spring is supposed to start next week.

We don’t believe it so we asked Mom if we could go out and look for it today.

This is our adventure for the day!

Copy of P1020490

Why is this white stuff here?  It’s not supposed to be white in spring, is it?

Copy of P1020486

I don’t think I want to go out there!

Copy of P1020496

Even the outdoor kitty looks disgusted.  I tried to ask him where spring is and he wouldn’t tell me.

Copy of P1020487

Hi Axel!!!  Have you seen spring?  Ask your humans if they know where spring is.

Copy of P1020495

I don’t like walking on this!

Copy of P1020493

Just look at my feet!  They got that white stuff on them!!! MOM!!!!!!!!

I wonder if spring is on the other side of this gate…….

I’ve been thinking about dirt lately.

What are you talking about?

The dirt that’s outside.

You mean the dirt that you track in the house?

I don’t always do that….besides, you track in dirt, too.

I do not.  I don’t like to get my feet dirty so I’m very careful.  But why are you thinking about dirt?

Well, you know how Mom has been playing around in the dirt outside lately?  She keeps pulling things out of the dirt and then she gets some kind of tool and messes up the dirt.

Oh, I was trying to help her the other night.  She was digging a hole and then she went over and started digging out this thing she called a plant.  I was real fascinated to I tried to help her but she just laughed at me.  Then she took that green thing that she dug up and she put it in the other hole.

Why do humans dig holes in the dirt and put things in them?  I know why dogs do that.  I’ve watched Champ and Axel and if they have a bone or something that they want to hide, they dig a hole in the dirt and put it in and cover it up. I was thinking maybe Mom was trying to hide those things she calls plants.

Sometimes I dig in the dirt, but for an entirely different reason and I ALWAYS cover it up.

Don’t get gross.  I’m trying to have a serious conversation here.  I got on the computer today while you were sleeping and started reading about dirt and humans and why they like to play in it.

Did you learn anything?

Well, you know how the internet is, I got way too much information and not on the subject I was really thinking about.  However, I finally discovered something.

What?

Humans like to dig in the dirt and plant seeds and things.  You know all those pretty colors that are showing up in the yards now?

Yes.  Where did they come from?

Humans planted seeds and bulbs and now that it’s getting warm again, the plants are growing and there are flowers blooming.

Cool.  If I plant a light bulb will a lamp grow?

I don’t think so but then I don’t understand all the human things yet.  I’m still a young kitty.

I’m so glad we have these discussions so I can learn things.  I never thought a discussion about dirt would be this much fun.
